Umberto joined Earlybird in 2026 and is based in the London office, where he focuses on early-stage investments in technology startups.

Prior to Earlybird, Umberto gained experience across private equity and early-stage ventures, building a foundation in investment analysis and company building. Throughout his career he has developed a strong interest in AI, fintech, and deep tech, with hands-on exposure to investment analysis and company building from an early stage.

Umberto holds a BSc in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the London School of Economics and an MSc in Social Data Science from the University of Oxford, becoming a published author.

Outside of investing, Umberto founded United Italian Societies, a non-profit organisation supporting Italian university students across the world.

For me being a venture capital investor means...

Sitting at the intersection of ideas and execution, where a conversation about a problem can turn into a company that reshapes an industry. It's one of the few roles where intellectual curiosity is a job requirement.

The first lesson I learned...

That the gap between knowing something and understanding it is enormous, and that the best way to close it is to be in the room, asking uncomfortable questions.

I am fascinated by...

How language shapes belief at scale, from political systems to AI models. And how the same dynamics play out in markets.
